Big Choir with Robert Hollingworth: Tirare la Mula

With Robert Hollingworth | Session 1
Course Genre: Vocal
Course Level: Intermediate
About this course

Robert Hollingworth makes a long-awaited return to Dartington to direct an extravaganza of music for multiple choirs from 17th century Europe, titled Tirare la Mula (‘Reining in the Donkey’). The Roman composer Orazio Benevoli is a missing link in our understanding of polychoral music: a newly edited mass for four choirs and a motet by his teacher Ugolini. Also, two movements from Heinrich Biber’s monstrous 53-part Missa Salisburgensis (discovered by a greengrocer in the late 19th century), and a rare version of the Marian hymn, Ave maris stella, with verses by Francesco Soriano adding a new flavour to Monteverdi’s sumptuous outer frame.

You will work directly with the composers and performers running the course to create new pieces for instruments and field recordings.
